Madonna and Michael Jackson

So I'll admit, I hate Madonna. She honestly just gets on my nerves. I understand that she is a pivotal character in 80s feminism and that she used controversy to attack the shortfalls of our culture. I just don't enjoy her music. Upon hearing Sidechains' remix of "Into the Groove" I realized the oversights of my opinion, and that every blanket statement must have an exception. This has become my secret weapon as a DJ since it is about impossible not to dance to it.

While I'm at it, no one can complain about a MJ remix, and this one's pretty great. "Off the Wall" Has always been my favorite album by him. All the songs represent the lovable prodigy's start to a brilliant career. Morsy's a pretty new guy to the game. He gave this a pretty subtle take off of the original, but perfectly dance-floor ready. If Morsy can keep churning out songs of this stature, he has quite a future ahead of him.

If you're in Miami you can see Morsy either at Money Shot on Thursday (08/21), or Poplife on Saturday (08/30)!

Jupiter

So, I have a strange, natural attraction to disco that you could close your eyes and imagine you are in a lounge from a sci-fi cartoon. Jupiter does exactly this with "Starlighter." Listening to it makes me want to dance on my ceiling, playing air key-tar. I'll admit I was quite lukewarm to the song at first, but it's hard to not heed to the siren's call who makes me fall in love and smooths out some of the best retro-futuristic music I've heard since Laserdance. You can stop by Boule a Facettes to pic up two other songs of theirs.

Jupiter - Starlighter (ZShare)

While I'm at it, I love posting classic music that continues to influence me. Laserdance made some of the most imaginative disco in Europe during the eighties, yet is so rarely mentioned. "Digital Dream" is a work of gold that throws you in a joyride through outer space.

Captain Crunk

I've been so lazy lately and there are absolutely no excuses because I haven't even been too busy lately. Well anyways, obviously due to my negligence there is a surplus of amazing music that I have the opportunity to write about.

I'll start with something by a guy I've already written about. A while ago I posted Captain Crunk's wonderful remix of "Veni Vidi Vici." Again, he doesn't disappoint, this time remixing Treasure Finger's hit which is becoming a classic "Cross The Dancefloor." I love the song's spacey disco sound and Capt. Crunk takes the funk even farther. Not a huge departure from the original, but the subtleties provide quite a pleasant improvement. Redthreat just posted a few other remixes too.

Crush - Ft. Lauderdale

So we have competition

I want to check it out but I can't due to my DJing at Flaunt. You should check it out, I'll forgive you.

Midfield General and Skream

I'm on a role! Two posts in a row, maybe I can keep up with this.

The new Midfield General releases, especially disco sirens, have been hyped like crazy, but for a good reason. First of all, disco sirens was produced by both Justice and Soulwax. I mean, there are no hotter people in dance music right now. But I'm not posting the original you can get it from You Can Call Me Pelski along with a few other remixes. My favorite is the Boy 8 Bit remix. Ever since his amazing Black Ghosts remix, I've been following him closely, I was getting afraid we wouldn't see that same magic from him again. Fortunately, I was wrong. I guess it's about impossible to hurt a song that is so hot. Midfield General's new album General Disarray will be released April 28th on Skint Records.

Speaking of The Black Ghosts, I love these guys. I think this has been around for a while and I am horribly late on picking up on it. But that doesn't make this song any less awesome. Skream and Platician don't really change the original much, but the give it a bass line that takes the song into sonic greatness and complements the singers voice perfectly.

Presets and Hail Social

Alright, I am back to uploading stuff on a regular basis. I still don't have the web space I'm wanting to be capable of posting through direct links, oh well. I guess for now YSI and Zshare will have to do. Since I am still in the process of getting started and situated, I don't have the connections to be the first to post new songs. I want to be the eyes and ears of people, and try to post only new music that I actually like. You'll hear me playing most of the songs out on my DJ sets at Flaunt.

I have a theory that most bloggers try to post new music, good or not simply to attract readers. This turns the blog world into quite the daunting source for new music. Never before had I needed to weed through so much awful music just to find one or two good songs.

Now that the rant is over, on to the music.

Fluokids always seems to be in on the newest stuff first. This Zombie Nation remix of "This Boy's in Love" by The Presets is no exception. I love the original, it's a bit campy, but that's The Presets. They've definitely changed since Beams was released. They have matured a bit and replaced their angular tension with a straighter house feel. At the same time, they still haven't lost any of the angst that makes them such a strong force in modern electro. Zombie Nation took their hypnotic 80's disco song and turned it into a dance epic.

I'll be honest, I hadn't heard Hail Social until I recently heard the wonderful Designer Drugs remix of "Heaven." It turns out that they will just recently released a new EP. This song has been stuck in my head for the last for weeks. The singers vocals are absolutely mesmerizing and lend himself to be remixed beautifully. If you'd like to read more about them you can go to IHEARTCOMIX where you'll also be able to get the Hot Pink Delorean Remix.
